The Por Larranaga Larranaga 47 or PL47 for short is a classic “Churchill” vitola and is presented in an impressive unvarnished Semi Boîte Nature box of 50 cigars. This is the first time a UK Habanos Regional Edition has been offered to the market in this format.

As with some previous UK Regional Editions, an old papeleta from the brand has been recreated to dress the outside of the box. Unlike most cabinets/boxes housing fifty Habanos, the cigars are layered in three rows of thirteen and one row of eleven rather than tied into a bundle with ribbon. This style of box is considered an outstanding way of ageing cigars in the medium and long term. Only 1,500 numbered boxes have been produced which will be made available exclusively to the UK market.

The name Por Larranaga, which means “By Larranaga”, was first registered in Havana by Ignacio Larrañaga in 1834. This was just 24 years after the very first cigar brands were registered, and makes Por Larrañaga the oldest brand of handmade Habanos still in production.

Although Por Larrañaga is classified light to medium bodied, and is relatively subtle and easy going, it has a reputation for outstanding ageing potential. Previous UK Regional Editions from the brand, most notably the 2007 Magnifico, have born this out and have become extremely collectable.

Cohiba Siglo de Oro (2022)

Beginning in 2019 with the Romeo y Julieta Maravillas No.8 (Year of the Rat), the Cohiba Siglo de Oro is the fourth release from Habanos s.a. to commemorate a Chinese lunar New Year.

The Siglo de Oro measures 4 1⁄2” (115mm) x 54 ring gauge and is an entirely new size within the Habanos portfolio (Vitola de Galera is Exitosos or “successful” in English). Only 18,888 boxes of 18 cigars have been produced to mark the 2023/24 lunar calendar with each box housing a scannable chip secured to the inner lid allowing for instant authentication and information. Each cigar is dressed with the standard Cohiba band and a foot-band denoting the “Year of the Rabbit”.

Montecristo Wide Edmundo

The latest release from Habanos to arrive in the UK is the Montecristo Wide Edmundo. It is the fourth cigar in the brand’s portfolio to bear the Edmundo name, following the launch of the original in 2004. However, uniquely among its stablemates, the Wide Edmundo is dressed with a second band bearing its name. The Wide Edmundo is an entirely new vitola (size) within the Habanos portfolio called the Duke No.3. It measures an impressive 4 7/8” (125mm) x 54 ring gauge. Perhaps unsurprisingly, that makes it the heaviest ring gauge in the Edmundo range.

Montecristo is the benchmark brand for many cigar smokers. Its perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world. All sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

This 2014 release is only available from La Casa del Habanos and Havana Cigar Specialists. However, its light to medium blend with distinctive floral and zesty notes makes it well worth seeking out. Ideal after lunch with a glass of chilled Chardonnay.

The Millenium Blend was launched in 2001. All its formats are made with a wrapper from ecuador which is the result of a new hybrid developed in Ecuador using Connecticut and Cuban seeds.

Ramon Allones Allones No. 3

The Ramon Allones Allones No.3 measures 5 5/8” (138mm) x 52 and is presented in labelled boxes of ten cigars. The size is redolent of the internationally popular Montecristo Edmundo (being just 3mm shorter) and is known as a Nobleza in the cigar factories of Cuba. The only time this size has been seen before was in 2017 with the Limited Edition, Partagas Serie No.1.

Ramon Allones plays a major role in the centuries old story of Havana cigars. Founded in 1837, it is also one of the oldest brands still in production, second only to Por Larranaga (1834). Between 1911 and 1927 Hunters & Frankau owned the Ramon Allones factory in Havana as well as the world wide brand rights. It is perhaps understandable then that we are particularly pleased to see this new addition to the classic range, the first in well over 40 years.

Full flavoured, all the cigars are made ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade. They are made with a blend of filler and binder tobaccos harvested exclusively from the Vuelta Abajo zone of Pinar del Rio, characterised by its intense and complex taste.
