You’ve got to have something from Islay for Christmas! The nose is very distinctly Bruichladdich, with seashore, baled hay, mineral oil and tangerine peel. I also find milk bottle sweets, apricot, melon and sweet lime as it breathes in the glass. The palate has a lovely texture, with candied lemon, salted butter, apricot jam, waxes and oils. With a bit of water it’s even better, with citrus, stone fruits, camphor and minerals in perfect balance.

A lovely cask of one of the most distinctive distillates out there, and unmistakeably Islay even without any peat.

This first-fill bourbon barrel produced 229 bottles at a cask strength of 57.9%.

This is a mystery peated Highland single malt, rumoured to be from a rather well-known distillery…

The nose has a complex aromatic fruitiness (orange, fig leaf, mango, Juicy Fruit) with savoury smoke (soy sauce, liquorice and sage, BBQ) drifting beneath. The palate is sweet, lightly syrupy in texture, and smokier than the nose, with papaya, lemon, salty green olives, black treacle bacon and a lingering and slightly medicinal peat smoke.

It’s the balance of a rather lush fruitiness with a sweet/savoury smoke that really makes this one. It made me think of old Caol Ila and Laphroaig at points, which can’t be a bad thing!

This refill barrel produced 267 bottles at a cask strength of 54.0%.

To commemorate the Hacienda’s bicentennial in 1996, Alberto Vollmer Herrera, member of the 4th generation of the family, challenged the company to develop a rum that could leverage all of its mastery learned in the first 200 years.

Santa Teresa 1796 is a bold and elegant rum with blends up to 35 years aged in bourbon oak barrels, then further aged through the artisanal Solera method resulting in a dry, smooth and balanced rum.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Amber red and rich of thick tears.

Taste: Fruity aroma with notes of wood.

Finish: Unique taste of nuts, leather, vanilla, cinnamon, dark chocolate, prunes, hints of honey and pepper.

This is a single cask Jamaican rum from Worthy Park distillery.

The nose has smoky custard, green olives, black tea, bananas, shoe polish and liquorice, as well as some nice little woodsy herbal touches. The palate starts on huge sweet liquorice, lime juice and salt, before developing on plum sauce, engine oil, marmalade and tarte tatin. The finish is long and delightful, with sweet tar and tinned lychees.

This is top quality and hugely fun spirit, and not at all a bad place to start if you’re a whisky fan looking to introduce yourself to the world of rum.

This refill rum barrel was aged for 3 years in Jamaica and the remainder in Europe, producing only 177 bottles at a cask strength of 56.2%.

To honor Alexandre Gabriel?s 20th anniversary as Master Blender, we created Plantation XO 20th Anniversary using a blend of quintessential extra-old rums from Barbados. Over a decade later, we are still very proud of this rum as it continues to receive praises and top awards. First aged in bourbon casks in Barbados for many years, this rum is then sailed across the ocean in barrels to the southwest of France to be further matured in small Ferrand French oak casks. This centuries-old ?double ageing? process imparts incredible smoothness and complexity. It unveils a sophisticated palate of chocolate, vanilla, ripe banana, roasted coconut and a hint of fresh mango notes. A tribute to the character created by Charles Dickens in the Pickwick Papers, Reverend Stiggins, whose favorite drink was ?pineapple rum.? The barks of Victoria pineapples are infused in Plantation 3 Stars rum, which is then further distilled. Separately, the pineapple fruit is infused in Plantation Original Dark rum. The Batch Kettle Still was brought to Diplom?tico?s La Miel distillery in 1959. This semi-artisanal distillation system is originally from Canada, where it was employed for the production of American whisky. Using the best sugar cane honeys, this unique distillate is aged for 6 years in American white oak barrels, that previously served to age bourbon and scotch, resulting in a delicious medium-body and complex rum. This system produces a complex distillate. After aging, the rum brings a very elegant and rich nose, combining aromas of vanilla with sweet and fruity notes of cherry and strawberry with a touch of banana. Well balanced on the palate with a sweet entry, followed by hints of ripe tropical fruits. Ends with a soft, sweet and slightly cool pronounced aftertaste.

Tasing Notes

Nose; Toffee and roasted bananas, with milk chocolate, sweet cream and cinnamon toast. The toffee notes build, dominating with creamy sweetness without become too sticky.

Palate; Rich and sweet, with the banana of the nose right up front. Soft char bitterness and hints of burnt toast hide at the back, with layers of caramel sauce, stewed orchard fruit and spicy nutmeg in between.

Finish; Chocolate bananas fade to woody spice.

Comment; Rich and thick. The sweetness is well balanced by loads of fruit banana notes and gentle oak.
