Angel’s Envy Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Port Wine Barrels is unlike any bourbon you’ve tried. Aged four to six years in new American White Oak barrels, we then finish the bourbon for up to six additional months in Port casks, imported from the Douro region of Portugal. This versatile flavor profile can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, or in a cocktail.

In the 1830’s our Woodford County distillery was the setting for a series of discoveries and innovative practices that today define the bourbon industry. For this 2021 Master’s Collection release Master Distiller Chris Morris and Assistant Master Distiller, Elizabeth McCall have drawn upon that rich history and their own interests for inspiration.

In Kentucky, a fermented grain mash is traditionally called “distiller’s beer”. Distillation converts this “beer” into a spirit that will become a “Whiskey” once barreled.

This Master’s Collection is our take on crafting a spirit that exhibits the flavors of a classic beer style, in this case a rich, roasted malty stout.

“Our distillery building was constructed by Irish stonemasons in 1838. That, plus the fact that we distill in the “Irish” style with triple pot stills inspired us to mash and distill an Irish style stout beer.” – Elizabeth McCall

The result is the Fall 2021 Master’s Collection release named Five-Malt Stouted Mash, a rich and darkly robust expression of Woodford Reserve Kentucky Straight Malt Whiskey.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Antique Orange.

Aroma: Dusky notes of roasted malt, toasted nuts all sweetened with hints of milk chocolate and brightened with a touch of orange zest, spearmint and warm baking spices. Oak, cherry cobbler and shortbread round out the malt and barrel influence.

Taste: Malty with toasted hazelnut and cocoa highlights atop a layer of baked fruit, crisp spice and zest bounce about the depths.

Finish: Malt and cocoa notes linger on.

The Boondocks Signature Series is a limited release of some of the finest bourbon we’ve come across. While searching for new and interesting bourbons, we happened upon a very limited amount of 18-year old bourbon which we instanty fell in love with- intense, decadently rich with one of the longest finishes we’ve experienced. This complex bourbon is exceptional.

This exquisite bourbon greets you with enticing aromas of decadent toffee and dark amber maple syrup with a whisp of spice. When sipped, you’ll notice complex flavors of Tahitian vanilla, butterscotch and dark roasted coffee that are balanced with fruity notes of raisins and dates. A delightful oaky background is present without overpowering, and leads to a warm mouthfeel that finishes with a long and pleasant finish which lingers till

Aging bourbon in barrels is an art, not a science. Finishing bourbon demands even more talent because you’re imparting additional flavor and character on what is essentially a completed product. We started with an incredibly smooth and rich 8 Year Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey, hand selected by our Master Distiller, Dave Scheurich and then coaxed even more flavor and nuance out of it by aging it a little longer in used port barrels. Throughout the process, Dave routinely pulled samples to ensure the extra aging didn’t overpower the bourbon, but complimented it, adding to the complexity and character.

The result, a beautiful ruby and amber color. Robust, fruity, nicely balanced with warm bourbon notes enhanced by a subtle port finish highlighted by aromas and flavors of raisins, vanilla, a touch of smoke and an oaky but not tannic sweet, big and spicy mouthfeel with a long, pleasant finish.
