William Shakespeare, born in 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, is widely regarded as the greatest writer in the English language, a truly outstanding poet and possibly the world’s most important dramatist ever. His plays, written in the late 16th and early 17th centuries, are today performed more often and in more countries that those of any other playwright. He wrote 38 plays and 154 sonnets. Major works include Hamlet, King Lear, Othello, Macbeth, The Comedy of Errors, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado about Nothing, and Romeo and Juliet. His works, themes, style, and language have until this day a lasting influence on the world of theatre, film, opera, and our common language. These White Spot pipes have been specially manufactured to commemorate and celebrate the 450 year jubilee of Shakespeare’s birth in 1564. The shape, an elegant Bent Dublin in group 4 (4114), is fitted with a precious metal band engraved with William Shakespeare’s signature. The delicate tamper, crafted from 15 grams of solid Sterling silver, is shaped like a writing quill in an inkwell, the traditional writing implement of the period. Pipe and tamper are housed in an attractive leather presentation book bearing William Shakespeare?s relief bust and his signature on its cover and a hand-signed limited edition certificate complements each pipe.
